With warmer weather on the horizon, one sign of the impending change of seasons is the upcoming Easter Sunday holiday. Our family celebrates Easter and I look forward to gathering with them and hopefully enjoying a nice meal or two.
Despite the fact that my kiddos are a sophomore in college and a junior in high school, the Easter Bunny still visits our house. Well, he was a day late last year because someone completely let it slip their mind, but he eventually made it. It was determined that he was afraid to approach our house because we had an "issue" related to some baby rabbits whose mother had made the mistake of creating a nest within our black lab's reach. I'm not sure that I have completely forgiven the murderer, I mean sweet puppy, but let's move on.
We've never been big gift-givers for Easter baskets, but I do like to include small items along with my kiddos' favorite treats. Let's explore what Target has to offer for all of the Easter Bunnies out there.
Gotta start with the perfect Easter basket. These little animal rope baskets are adorable. They are 9.25" wide and there are several characters to choose from.
When my oldest was a baby, I purchased an Easter basket with a personalized fabric liner from Pottery Barn. I was Pottery Barn Kids crazy at the time. Three years later when my next little one came along, I had every intention of purchasing another for baby number two, but every year I would procrastinate and wait too late in the year to order one. I feel guilty to this day that I didn't purchase that darned basket. The shape of the Willow 12" plastic basket reminds me of Pottery Barn ones but at a fraction of the cost.
Here are some super cute felt baskets that come in sports, animals, and other styles.
These are some inexpensive options that are still cute and come in a variety of colors.
It's also nice to substitute a traditional Easter basket with one that can be reused for other purposes. Here are just a few of the vast array of baskets at Target.
Next come the basics. Easter grass, plastic eggs, egg fillers, and other little trinkets are needed to give the basket just the right touch.
Now it's time for some treats. What is Easter candy without Reese's peanut butter eggs, am I right? I remember as a kid I loved Cadbury creme eggs and Peeps, but I can't handle all of that sugar at once now. My son loves them both though. The Peeps rainbow pops are too cute.
Well, we have baskets, plastic eggs, egg fillers, and treats, now we need to finish supplying the baskets with the meat and potatoes - the extra special goodies. The year that we moved into our house, the Easter Bunny brought baskets that were made from pool noodles and beach towels (thank you, Pinterest). Their baskets included various swim-related items since it was our first year with a pool. It is the perfect time of the year to stock up on pool accessories, making them great options for gifts. Although my two rugrats are now too old for most of the items shared, it's still fun to reminisce about times when they were younger (I may or may not get a little misty-eyed as I do).
Small toys, such as brainteaser games, Lego kits, stuffed animals, activity kits, and other odds and ends, make great basket fillers. Again, some of these toys are a little too young for my two kiddos, but there are some things here that the Easter Bunny may or may not have considered for their baskets. Also, as I said, it's fun to reminisce about when they were younger (despite the misty eyes).
Books are always a good choice, especially board books for the little ones. I only have one reader between my two kids, so unless it's a sports magazine of some sort, the Easter Bunny only shops for books for my daughter and not my son.
Back in the day, the Easter Bunny used to bring DVDs of my kids' favorite movies. Some kids nowadays may not even know what those are, with streaming services dominating the industry. Although streaming is used widely for movie watching and music, my kids, and hopefully many others, still enjoy listening to music on CDs and vinyl, making them great basket fillers as well. For my fellow Swiftie moms out there, I know that Tortured Poets Department is not due to be released until April 19th, but it can be pre-ordered. Something that I do when a gift won't arrive in time (usually because I've ordered it at the last minute) is print a photo of the item and make a little note telling the recipient that it will arrive soon.
I won't share too many music options because I know everyone's taste in music varies, but here are a few for consideration.
Now that my kids are young adults, I have to think outside the box a bit to finish up their baskets. It's often hard to fill teen Easter baskets, but here are a few ideas.
That should do it for the Easter baskets. I hope these items offer someone inspiration to help fill their family's baskets with treats and gifts!
We haven't colored eggs for Easter in a few years, but it's an activity that my kiddos loved to do when they were younger. The egg decorating kits seem to get cuter every year.
Lastly, since I did make it to Target this past weekend, I have to share these sweet Easter wreaths by Threshold. They are so cute! They would look cute hanging on the wall or even used as a centerpiece on a table with added decorative accents in the middle.
I've included the links to both below along with some other cute Easter wreaths I found while shopping online.
Well, friends, I hope you have fun with your family's Easter baskets this year, and I hope you've found a little inspiration from Target along the way!
