Elevate Your Entryway: Sherwin-Williams Dark Blue Color Trends for the Front Door

Sherwin Williams Naval front door

When it comes to making a lasting first impression, the color of your front door plays a pivotal role in setting the tone for your home's exterior.  Sherwin-Williams (SW) offers an array of stunning shades of blue to add a touch of sophistication and charm to your entryway.  Let's delve into some of the top front door color trends in shades of blue, featuring specific SW paints.

1. Naval (SW 6244)

  • Naval is a deep and moody navy blue that commands attention and exudes timeless elegance.  This rich hue adds depth and drama to any entryway, creating a striking contrast against light-colored exteriors.  This classic and classy navy was crowned the 2020 Sherwin-Williams color of the year.

2. In the Navy (SW 9178)

  • In the Navy is another classic navy blue favorite.  Rather than the green undertones of Naval, this timeless shade of blue has strong violet-blue undertones.  Picture your front door dressed in this rich hue, welcoming guests with its understated elegance and charm.

3. Oceanside (SW 6496)

  • Oceanside is a deep, cool blue with a teal undertone that evokes the calmness of ocean waves gently breaking against the shore.  This refreshing color adds charm and provides a pleasing first impression for your guests. There’s no mistaking why this beautiful shade was chosen as the 2018 Sherwin-Williams color of the year.

4. Indigo Batik (SW 7602)

  • Indigo Batik is a bold and vibrant shade of blue with hints of purple undertones. This captivating hue adds a pop of color and personality to your front door, making a statement while maintaining a sense of sophistication.

5. Dress Blues (SW 9176)

  • Channeling the crisp look of a tailored suit, Dress Blues is another fantastic option for your front door.  Bold and commanding, this deep blue hue will add a touch of sophistication to your home's exterior.

6. Rainstorm (SW 6230)

  • Rainstorm is a calming and serene shade of blue reminiscent of a clear sky after a summer shower.  This soft and soothing hue creates a welcoming and tranquil atmosphere, inviting guests to step inside and experience the warmth of your home.

I have always been a big fan of many color palettes from Sherwin-Williams.  For any painting project at our home, I typically choose a color from their vast selection of classic and trendy colors.  I may not always purchase SW brand paint, but I will select their color.

entryway blue front door update sherwin-williams

When we moved into our home in 2018, I wanted to freshen up our front door and chose SW Sea Song, a lighter teal blue color that is no longer on their website. Growing a little tired of the light-colored door, last fall I decided to update it with a more dramatic, dark color. I have loved Naval for years, so that was my first choice. Unfortunately, Naval did not work on our front door due to an overhang, which does not allow enough light throughout the day, causing the color to appear black at times.

I lost count of the number of paint samples I purchased, but I finally found the perfect fit, which was Rainstorm. I felt that it would spruce up the entry even more if I painted the sidelights the same color. Although it frightened me to try it, I am so glad that I did, and I love how it turned out. The photo doesn't reflect the color's true hues, but you can get an idea of the before and after.

Sherwin Williams offers a stunning selection of front door color trends in shades of dark blue.  Whether you’re drawn to the timeless elegance of Naval or the teal undertones of Oceanside, there’s a shade to suit every taste and personality.  Go ahead, grab a paintbrush, and elevate your entryway with a fresh coat of paint!
