The entry hall "needs" a new accent cabinet, right?
My mind is off to the races yet again. In a recent post last month about media consoles, I shared this navy Matin Svensson TV stand and mentioned that I have a smaller version of this same cabinet in a shade of blue-gray. I also noted that this cabinet's style is a little more traditional than my current taste in home decor.
That got me thinking (dangerous, I know) and I took a new look at my small, blue-gray cabinet. When we purchased the cabinet a few years ago, we used it as a media console in our old house, where our television hung above the fireplace. The small cabinet now sits in the entry hall of our current home.
Once I took a new look at the cabinet in the entry hall, I began to envision a different aesthetic for this space, maybe something a little more on the modern side. I took a photo for reference and started searching online for small accent cabinets. So, what would I replace the blue-gray cabinet with if I decide to do so? I would prefer something similar in size, especially the height. The measurements of the current cabinet are the following: 31"W x 35.25"H x 15"D.
Lately, I've been seeing a lot of cabinets of all sizes with wicker rattan doors, giving a little boho flair. The rattan doors, along with the black color, offer modern elements to the cabinet below from Amazon. It also gives mid-century vibes with its long, flared legs. It's about 3/4 of an inch shorter in height than the current cabinet, but I like the overall look of this option.
Whether the doors are rattan or otherwise, I definitely do not want glass doors again. Glass doors were necessary as a media cabinet, but not needed now as an accent cabinet. I'd prefer a furniture piece that gives me the ability to tuck items out of sight without worrying about how organized or unorganized they are.
Rather than offer ramblings about each of these cabinets, I'm simply going to share a few that I have considered as a possible replacement for the current cabinet. The overall styles are a little all over the place, but so is my thought process, so it's pretty par for the course.
I like some of these styles more than the others, but height-wise, the ones I am most drawn to are not quite tall enough. Of those shared, the black with the oval-shaped rattan doors is my favorite but it falls a little short on height, literally. :-)
The number one reason I want a cabinet similar in height is that I do not want to move or replace the artwork hanging on the wall. I love my hydrangea print that's there now! It is probably my favorite piece of art we own, and it was a housewarming gift from my beautiful sister-in-law when we moved into our home 6 years ago, which makes it even more special. It measures 18" x 30" and is perfectly sized for the space. I'm also appreciating the green tones in the print more than ever with the recent resurgence of green used in home decor.
I tried to find a similar print without luck but decided to share some other styles. Since this is another blog post for which a redesign is more hypothetical than something that is going to happen anytime soon, I did find some pretty floral prints to share for inspiration that could be for the entry if I ever decide to replace the artwork, or they could even be options for our bedroom once it's ready for new decor. I wasn't expecting to find so many nice art options on Amazon.
While hypothetically updating the entry hall, we've looked at possible cabinet replacements and artwork inspiration, we might as well go all the way and take a look at accessories. Full disclosure here, I replaced what ordinarily sits on the cabinet before I took the photo shared at the beginning of the post. What is usually there is too rustic, more farmhouse-ish, and doesn't go well with the hydrangea print, so I have been shopping recently for accessories to spruce up the space. Even if a new cabinet doesn't make its way into our home for a while, at minimum I do plan to update the accessories.
I love the versatility of these sets of 3 white vases. They can be used all together on a large surface, or what I often do is break up the sets and use them throughout the house to accessorize when I need one or two more small things to fill a space.
Here are some taller, more modern vase options.
I've been seeing decor accessories that are hollowed like the vases above and the round versions below. The round ones are from two different vendors, both with great ratings, and comparable in size and price.
I could keep going forever on these accessories, but the last things that I'll share for this post are two larger vase options. I absolutely love the green glass vase for the entry to coordinate with the green in my hydrangea print. The black option is nice as well for a more modern feel.
They would pair perfectly with some faux hydrangeas next to the artwork in the entry. These from Amazon in green or white have great ratings and appear very lifelike.
Okay, okay, I know I said the vases would be the last accessories I would share, but I'll leave you with these final two products. The rest will have to be another blog post for another day. I swear I could shop for home decor 24/7.
When looking for faux hydrangeas I found this beautiful little arrangement in a cube vase. It's 8 inches tall and would look super cute styled with something tall and slim, like this cool rechargeable antique brass lamp. The lamp also comes in black and brushed nickel, it's cordless, has 3 brightness levels, and has a built-in rechargeable battery.
There, I'm finally finished sharing for today. I have so many more things to share in another blog post, so I may keep writing for a while after this one goes live.
What did I accomplish with the entry re-design? Not much. I'm probably keeping my current cabinet a little longer since replacing it is not a top priority. I'm not replacing my hydrangea print, but I did find some nice artwork that might be great for the bedroom. However, I do think I'll order the lamp, the hydrangea arrangement in the cube vase along with the green vase and some of the faux hydrangeas. I'll try both hydrangea options and see which one I like the best in the space.
So, maybe I did accomplish a little something today, and through it all, I had fun shopping!
